The O’Shaughnessy Academy of Irish Dance is part of a larger community of dance schools and advising committees.
“The objective of An Coimisiún is to preserve and promote Irish Dancing, including step dancing, céili dancing and other team dancing, and also to promote the use of the Irish language”. CLRG is the governing body for the global Irish Dance community overseeing competition rules and certifications for teachers, adjudicators and examiners. CLRG hosts Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne, the World Irish Dancing Championships annually during Easter week.
“The Irish Dance Teacher’s Association of North America (IDTANA) operates in tandem with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG) in Dublin, Ireland. The emphasis of the IDTANA is to promote Irish Dance throughout North America. Annually, the IDTANA sponsors the North American Irish Dance Championships (NAIDC) in July”
“The North American Feis Commission is an organization of Feis Managers responsible for the organizing Feiseanna in Canada and the United States and to provide guidance for establishing and executing a multi-cultural event promoted to advance our Celtic heritage and attract participants and observers”
“The Western US Region is one of seven regions in North America as set forth by the IDTANA. The region follows the rules of both the IDTANA and the governing body in Ireland, CLRG.” WUSR host the annual Western Regional Oireachtas in November which is a qualifying competition for the NAIDC and World Chmapionships.
